The chief electoral officer of Election Commission of India is conducting online voter ID registration to improve e-services for online registration of election card.
ECI collaboration up with other organization aim towards welfare of common people by spreading awareness about online procedure and reach rural areas to increase registrations not only in metro cities but in small towns, villages and in backward areas. Earlier voter IDs were issued by the Election Commission in various states on offline mode. But now the entire procedure to submit application for new election card to receive a digital copy can be done online after registration.
But those wanting to enroll themselves as voters must be Indian citizens and above the age of 18 as on 1st January of the concerned year. Only Indians are qualified voters to participate in elections and those who have obtained citizenship of other country are not disqualified to vote in any region.
Voter ID Registration Rules in India
According to Article 326 of the Constitution, an individual who is not a citizen of India cannot vote. Foreigners are not allowed to vote or people living outside India cannot participate in elections. But certain provisions mention that People Act 2010 allows Indian citizens who are not resident of the country and have not acquired citizenship of other country can participate in elections by demonstrating vital identity proof.
Individuals who are not of a sound mind and have been declared so by a competent court are also not permitted to vote as well. People who were involved in corrupt activities regarding elections are prohibited from voting too. No one is allowed to enroll themselves in more than one place to register for new voter id. It is a punishable offence.
Candidates can check relevant date to determine their age qualification as per Section 14(b) of the RP Act, 1950 that mention the qualifying date is January 1st of the year during which electoral is being revised or prepared. For more details visit http://www.nvsp.in/ .
Important document required for voter id registration is address proof, identity proof, nationality proof. There should provide at least one copy of Ration card or driving license, or passport, or passbook front page in order to avail their Voter Card UP. Government issued Aadhaar Card is also accepted as identity proof to get Voter id.
At the time of elections, voters must bring two of the following IDs. It should mention person’s current address and name initials clearly.

Electricity bill in the voter’s name
