Meghalaya has its chief electoral office that functions under the authority and directions of the election of India. It has a website that enables voters of Meghalaya to register online. You can visit he portal here: http://ceomeghalaya.nic.in. Meghalaya CEO have the responsibility to conduct elections for Legislative Assembly, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It also prepare electoral rolls of different constituencies in Meghalaya. The state electoral office also work in collaboration with ECI to issue Electoral Photo Identity Cards to Meghalaya residents. On the website you can get more information about voter list, polling stations and general voting education information for the voters of Meghalaya.
21st January 1972 is the date when Meghalaya was officially granted the status of a state by the Parliament of India. Currently there are 60 constituencies, 2 Lok Sabha constituencies and 1 Rajya Sabha constituency. Population of the state according to census 2011 data is 29.64 lakhs and total number of residents who have voter id cards is 13,16,201.
The website of Meghalaya CEO is properly planned and well designed to provide in-depth information to local residents about election machinery, election dates, voter list, status tracking mechanism and facility to register for voter id card online. Follow the steps below to apply for voter id in Meghalaya:
For online registration procedure, head over to http://ceomeghalaya.nic.in/ which is the state CEO website, and on the home page’s right hand side panel you can see “E-Registration” link. Click on it, and you will taken over to http://126.96.36.199/erms/ where you can see a link for “Application for inclusion of name in electoral roll (Form 6)”. Click on it and proceed to new opened page.
New opened page is http://188.8.131.52/erms/form6.jsp which is the form 6 for registration of new voter id card. Start filling all the details such as First Name, Surname, Date of birth etc etc. Fill in your address and details of family members in the next section.
Move on to next section of declaration and fill all the mandatory fields. Make sure you enter correct mobile number and email address because that is where you will receive your application id or acknowledgment receipt. Once you have checked all the details, click submit for enrollment of your application.
Since there is not option for uploading photograph and identity verification documents proof on the website, you have to download the form, fill al the details, attach all the identity documents and photograph and then send it to your nearest election commission office.
Once you application is processed, a booth level officer of Meghalaya electoral officer will visit your residence to verify the details, and after verification you will be issued your voter id.
