Current chief minister of Madhya Pradesh is Mr. Shivraj Singh Chouhan who hails from center government ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. He is 18th CM of the state. In the year 2000, Chhattisgarh was created as a new state carved out of Madhya Pradesh and at that time it had 40 Lok Sabha constituencies, but after separation it is reduced to 29 now. On the other hand Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly has 230 constituencies.
Main political parties active in the state are BJP, INC, BSP and some regional parties such as Pragatisheel Bahujan Samaj Party, Madhya Pradesh Vikas Congress and Kisan Mazdoor Adivasi Kranti Dal.
